I'm not supposed to do this.
I am a volunteer at the Telluride Film Festival. I have been for several years. It's not what I do in my real life. In my real life I have an important job. But every year for the past while I have taken 6 or 7 days of vacation time to work somewhere for free.
I kid that in my job, which is fairly high pressured, I have to think all the time and it's nice that for a week I get to not think. I just do what I'm told by people with a great deal less education then me.
People whom I've known for years, who only know me from the Festival, have often said that they can't believe what I do for a living. That they can't picture me with a suit in an office with a secretary. But that's part of the fun. Going from high-powered whats-its to know nothing grunt for a week. And the best part is I get a staff pass so I get to attend the festival for free.
So this year I'm going to see what it's like to blog about it. I'm not going to release any information before it'll get released in the regular course of the Festival. I'm not printing brochures or anything. I'm simply going to put my thoughts to paper in a general way so that others can know what it's like to work at one of these things. So you can understand how much work has gone into it and how dedicated everyone is to the festival.
I also have to be a little careful about my anonymity. It would be pretty easy to figure out who I am if I mentioned my location. So much of what I will blog about will be 3rd-party stories. We'll see.
For now I can tell you I am a low-level grunt at the Telluride Film Festival.
And it's going to be a blast.
